STORY OF A MIDDLE CLASS GIRL WHO DARED TO DREAM

My name is Aisha, and I come from a small, tight-knit town, Shimla where everyone knows each other. Growing up in a middle class family, I had big dreams that seemed beyond the reach of my small world. As I turned 21, I made a bold decision – to move to New Delhi, the city of dreams, in pursuit of a better life and a chance to fulfill my aspirations.

Leaving my family and familiar surroundings was not easy, but I knew that this was a necessary step to break free from the constraints of my comfort zone. New Delhi was both mesmerising and overwhelming, with its towering buildings, bustling markets, and an air of opportunity that enveloped the city.

I struggled to find a suitable job, and each rejection felt like a blow to my confidence. The fast-paced lifestyle of New Delhi left me feeling lost and lonely at times. It was a constant battle to adapt to the city’s ways and make meaningful connections. The initial months were filled with tears and self-doubt, making me wonder if I had made the right decision.

With a heart full of determination, I took up a part-time job to support myself while I continued searching for a job aligned with my passion for writing. As I juggled work and aspirations, I encountered countless challenges – from navigating the city’s chaotic public transport to finding an affordable place to live.

Amid the struggles, I met a few kind souls who became my friends and confidants. They taught me how to survive and thrive in this vast metropolis. We shared our dreams, fears, and ambitions, providing the much-needed emotional support.

The turning point came when I stumbled upon a small publishing house that was willing to give me a chance. The job didn’t pay much, but it was an opportunity to work in the world of literature that I had always admired. Despite the low salary, I poured my heart and soul into my work, determined to make my mark.

As time passed, I gradually adjusted to the city’s rhythm. I learned to manage my finances smartly and embraced the chaos as a part of my daily life. The struggles didn’t disappear entirely, but they no longer felt insurmountable. I grew stronger and more resilient with each passing day.

Slowly but steadily, my hard work started paying off. I began receiving recognition for my dedication and talent. The praise and encouragement from my colleagues fuelled my determination further, and I knew I was on the right path.

Life in New Delhi taught me valuable lessons about perseverance and the importance of staying true to oneself. I never forgot my roots and always helped my family back in my hometown whenever I could. Their unwavering support was my pillar of strength during the toughest times.

As years went by, I found success in my career and became an inspiration to others who shared a similar journey. My story of struggle as a middle class girl in New Delhi resonated with many, offering hope to those who dreamt of escaping their small worlds to chase the stars.

Today, as I reflect on my journey, I feel grateful for the challenges that shaped me into the person I am. New Delhi has become my second home, and I am proud of the person I have become – a middle class girl who dared to dream and found her way in the vast city of dreams.
