CAN WE BE JUST INDIANS, FOR GOD’S SAKE!

In a nation as diverse and culturally rich as India, the question of unity and identity has always been a matter of great significance. The concept of being “just Indians” is a poignant reminder of our shared heritage and the strength that comes from embracing our collective identity. Yet, in recent times, the rise of divisive forces threatens to erode the very fabric that binds us together.

India’s middle class, comprising a substantial section of the population, is often seen as the backbone of the nation’s progress and development. However, the middle class too is not immune to the allure of identity politics and regionalism. While it is natural to take pride in one’s heritage and cultural roots, it becomes problematic when it hampers the larger goal of a united India.

The beauty of India lies in its diversity, where every state and region contributes to the rich tapestry of our national identity. Each cultural, linguistic, and religious group has its own distinct contributions, but they all blend seamlessly into the collective identity of being Indian. Yet, in recent times, we have witnessed the emergence of divisive ideologies, stoked by political interests, that seek to sow seeds of discord and disintegration among the very citizens who should stand united.

The need of the hour is to shed these divisions and embrace a unified identity as Indians. We must rise above the narrow confines of regionalism, caste, and creed, and instead, celebrate the idea of a united India that thrives on its diversity. Unity in diversity is not just a catchy phrase; it is the essence of our nation, encapsulating the coexistence of different cultures, traditions, and belief systems.

Being “just Indians” does not mean abandoning one’s roots or heritage; rather, it entails recognising that our diversity is our strength. It means transcending parochial boundaries and embracing a broader perspective that upholds the values of inclusivity and tolerance. A nation that stands together can weather any storm, and the middle class has a pivotal role to play in fostering this unity.

We must not allow ourselves to be swayed by divisive narratives that seek to pit one community against another. As responsible citizens, we must reject the politics of hatred and instead demand accountability, transparency, and progress from our leaders. Only then can we truly aspire to be “just Indians.”

Moreover, being “just Indians” also involves addressing the pressing issues that affect all citizens, irrespective of their background. Poverty, education, healthcare, and job opportunities are challenges that every Indian faces, and our collective efforts should be directed towards finding sustainable solutions to these problems.

The call to be “just Indians” is a clarion call to rise above our differences and embrace the essence of our nation. The middle class, being a significant section of society, can play a pivotal role in shaping this narrative of unity and inclusivity. Let us stand together as one, celebrate our diversity, and work towards building a stronger, united, and prosperous India, for God’s sake and for the sake of our shared future.
